Transdanube.Pearls
Brief information
The Danube region is one of the most promising tourism destinations in Europe. To access the Danube region across national borders, travellers still use the car as their main means of transport. However, this has a negative impact on the environment and the inhabitants concerned. The EU project Transdanube.Pearls addresses the challenge of counteracting the negative impacts by developing socially fair, economically feasible, environmentally friendly and health-promoting mobility services for visitors to the Danube region.

Project goals
The central element of the project is the establishment of a network of destinations along the Danube, so-called "Pearls" ("Transdanube.Pearls"), which are committed to the concept of sustainable mobility in tourism. This approach also supports cooperation between different stakeholders from the transport and tourism sectors. At the same time, the network increases the perception of the participating destinations through the unique opportunity to travel the Danube with sustainable means of transport. The network of "Pearls" aims to:
- To offer visitors the possibility to reach the "pearls" without their own car by better combining already existing mobility offers.
- Enable visitors to travel around the "Pearl" using new and improved sustainable modes of transport developed and tested as part of the project.
- Offer visitors a sustainable option to travel to the next "pearl" (or home)
- Provide user-friendly and easily accessible information on already existing sustainable mobility offers and tourism offers.
- Encourage local and regional stakeholders to promote the concept of sustainable mobility in tourism beyond the project period.
Further project results
- Developing integrated sustainable mobility offers and improving the possibilities to travel by different means of transport along the Danube (e.g. train, bus, bicycle, boat), especially on the "last mile".
- Expansion of sustainable mobility offers through training and further education opportunities for regional and local partners
- Simplified access to user-friendly information on existing sustainable travel and mobility services through the expansion of online platforms and the establishment of regional mobility centres along the Danube
- Expansion of attractive travel packages for visitors touring the Danube
