Europe and the USA

The future of the transatlantic partnership. A security challenge?

Relations between Europe and the US have been one of the cornerstones of international politics for decades. However, in the face of growing geopolitical tensions, global crises and far-reaching economic and technological changes, the transatlantic partnership is facing new challenges. How are relations between Europe and the United States developing? What role does Germany play within Europe in this context? And how can Europe successfully defend its interests and values in a changing world order?

This town hall event, featuring Robert Dieter, Head of the Sub-Department for Defence Policy and Export Controls at the Federal Foreign Office, will address these questions. Together with the audience, he will discuss current developments and prospects for transatlantic cooperation.

The focus is not only on security policy issues, but also on other key policy areas that shape relations between Europe and the US: from economic and trade policy, through climate and environmental policy, to digitalisation and technological sovereignty. Particular attention is paid to the role of Germany and Europe in an increasingly complex international situation.

Take this opportunity to speak with a senior representative from the Federal Foreign Office, ask questions and join the discussion: How can the transatlantic partnership continue to promote stability, security and prosperity in the future? And what responsibilities do Germany and Europe bear in this regard? The event is open to anyone interested in exploring Germany’s foreign policy and its relationship with the US within the European context. Admission is free.

This event is what is known as a town hall meeting. This open discussion format offers the opportunity to experience foreign policy first-hand through dialogue with staff from the Federal Foreign Office. Rather than a conventional lecture, you can look forward to a direct exchange in which you can ask questions on current foreign policy issues and find out how these affect Germany and our everyday lives.

We look forward to an exciting evening with you.
